Duma Works is recruiting a Resource Development and Fundraising Director for one of our clients. The hiring organization is a christian leadership and reconciliation NGO in Africa.


The Resource Development and Fundraising Director will support the organization to develop, manage and pursue program fund-ing partners and new funding opportunities across its areas of operation (East and Central Africa) and other areas of Sub-Saharan Africa into which it may grow with new funding support. S/he will report to the Vice President for Programs and Develop-ment in Nairobi office and work closely with the country directors and department coordinators, as well as other heads of the pro-jects.

Objective 1: Fundraising and grant writing

Key activities & responsibilities to achieve this objective:

  • Strategically assess and help select new potential donors to approach, based on their areas of interest and priority
  • Develop and maintain relationships with both new and exist-ing donors and respond to their regular requests and keep updating them about the work of the organization
  • Monitor donors, trends, opportunities, calls for proposals and make recommendations for organization’s funding strategy and applications
  • Prepare concept notes, project ideas and project proposals for specific program donors and ensure their timely submission
  • Work with the Reporting/Evaluation and Communication staff to develop strategic information and communication materials based on the company’s achievements and successes in past and existing programs
  • Undertake independent research in finding alternative re-sources and developing fundraising strategies
  • Pursue opportunities for long-term sustainability of the or-ganization
  • Organize or provide required assistance in any fundraising events for the organization

Objective 2: Represent the organization and develop meaningful partnerships

Key activities & responsibilities to achieve this objective:

  • Deliver frameworks for the creation of resource develop-ment plans for individual partners
  • Maintain an updated tracking tool for forecasting and track-ing partnership engagement
  • Pro-actively identify new and different funding opportunities that will provide increased benefits for participants
  • Design an effective system to provide accurate reports on existing and new funding opportunities
  • Attend, represent and sell company’s concepts at develop-ment events and forums along with networking opportunities and other relevant meetings/seminars

  • Donor/partner organizations (Church denominations, family foundations, and other institutions)
  • Private sector corporates
  • various government institutions
  • Complementing NGOs, INGOs which sub-contract or sub-grant implementing partners

Reporting Responsibilities

Reports/documentation this role produces

  • Concept notes and funding proposals including budgets
  • Promotional materials such as generic concept notes, web-site and social media pitches and updates
  • Summary updates on programs/projects activities on a regular basis

Position Requirements


  • Masters or Degree level qualifications in a relevant field like Business Administration, Strategic Management, Entrepre-neurship Management, Project Planning and Management, International Development, Marketing Communication, etc.

Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years relevant work experience
  • Proposal writing and fundraising skills
  • Understanding key players in funding and supporting peacebuilding, restorative justice, & other development programs
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and writing skills
  • Understanding fundraising challenges and opportunities
  • Understanding Project Management Cycle
  • Understanding of Biblical teachings and principles
  • Ability to work collaboratively and remotely in a team
  • Experience using Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel
